  • What can IAF do for me?
IAF are specialists in supporting young people aged 16-26. The easy answer is if you're between those ages and currently unemployed, then we can help you overcome all/any of the barriers that are preventing you from gaining work and can then help you find, and keep the job you've working towards. When it comes to breaking down those barriers, some examples include; support with your mental health, gaining qualifications, learning how to manage behaviour, understanding budgets, CV writing, support for offenders, advice on substance misuse. We offer a variety of packages to suit almost every need. Try us!
  • What if I can't afford to travel to receive the support?
Not a problem. We can come to you - tell us a suitable place and we'll be there when you need us. Then, attending any of our projects and programmes won't cost you anything either. We often even have PIZZA when you get there!
  • How do I sign up?
If you feel you need a little extra support, you're in the right place. You can make a self-referral onto our programmes via the contact us page. A member of our team will then reach out to you to discuss the support available and find the best fit for you.
  • I have another question, how can I get in contact with IAF?
There are lots of ways to contact The Inspire and Achieve Foundation so you can pick the one you are most comfortable with and reach out here.
  • What will I get out of the course?
The Prince's Trust Team programme offers a fantastic opportunity to gain a nationally-recognised certificate in employment, teamwork and community skills. As part of the course, you will also get the opportunity to complete a first aid at work certificate free of charge and participate in the John Muir award as part of the residential element to help young people connect with the outdoors.
  • Will any of this affect my benefits?
IAF pride ourselves on making sure that our support can be accessed by anyone who needs us. The Prince's Trust have a national agreement with DWP to prevent any loss of income to people who take part. Our mentoring services are all strongly supported by DWP also and none will affect your benefits. Please note. It is important that you make sure the JobCentre and DWP are aware you are attending a programme or receiving support.
  • I'd like to join a Team programme, but I'm nervous meeting people, how can IAF help?
IAF are super flexible when it comes to finding the best way to help young people. We do everything we can to make sure that anyone eligible to attend who wants to join a programme will be supported in the best way possible. Our Team Leaders would love to discuss how we can help make sure you feel able to attend our programmes. Just drop us a message and we'll be in touch to discuss further.
  • Who can I speak to about my learning needs?
Before you start the programme, you will probably meet your Team Leader who will walk you through each week of the course and discuss how the programme will help you to achieve your personal goals. This is a great opportunity for everyone to learn about one another and explore any adaptations you might require to help you maximise the course experience.
  • How much time will I spend in the classroom?
We like to get out and about in the community as much as we can but there are elements of classroom learning within the course needed to document your activities and collate the required evidence to pass the course. An IAF classroom isn't like a typical college classroom though; it's a lot more informal and we work hard to make it a space you want to be in through a mix of jokes, games and the occasional spontaneous Just Dance challenge.
  • Will there be opportunities to socialise outside the classroom?
The young people on Team often become good friends and tend to spend time together outside of the course. Our Space provides a safe space for young people across all of our programmes to connect online via our Discord platform and i-Time offers weekly activities that wrap around Team to enable further opportunities to stay active, have fun and enjoy one another's company.
  • How will a mentor help me?
IAF mentors are experts by experience meaning they have overcome their own personal challenges so have insights and knowledge to support young people to do the same. Whilst each individual's needs are unique, our mentors will work closely with you to apply their knowledge of the systems and support networks available to ensure you feel supported every step of the way.
  • Where will my mentoring sessions take place?
Depending on the needs and wishes of the young person this bespoke mentoring support option is provided either in an informal setting (such as a local library or café) or via more formal mentoring support sessions. We also offer both in-person and virtual appointments to give you the most flexibility when accessing this service.
  • How often will I be able to meet with my mentor?
When we meet you for your first appointment we'll discuss your unique circumstances and make a contact plan that's right for you. For some people, meeting a mentor once a fortnight to keep in touch is enough but for others needing more intensive support, this might be daily. Our bespoke approach to mentoring means our service is flexible to your needs.
  • What should I do if I'm unable to attend an appointment?
We understand that life can be chaotic so if you can't make a session, just reach out to your mentor to let them know. They can then offer this appointment time to another young person in need of our help.
  • Can I volunteer at i-Time?
Yes! We'd love to see more of our young people volunteer as i-Time volunteers, either helping to plan events or deliver them alongside our Youth Activities Coordinator Alex. Find out more about how you can get involved here.
  • How can I find out what's on in my area?
We will share our weekly activities timetable here on our website but you will also be able to find out what's on via Our Space.
  • Can I suggest an activity?
Yes! Our youth-led activities are exactly that - youth-led! We want the i-Time programme to reflect young people's interests so if you see an activity you'd like to try or an upcoming event that you would like to attend but have no-one to go with, make a suggestion on Our Space and we can try and get a group together or make a plan.
  • Are the activities free?
IAF offers the i-Time programme free of charge to young people so all the activities we run will be free to attend. We have a limited budget to reimburse travel costs so transport to and from the activity venues is not covered unless stated in the event promotions.
  • I've forgotten my log in, can you help?
You will use your Discord log in to access Our Space so if you need help to reset your password, you will need to do this through Discord's forgotten password link.
  • I'm concerned about something I've seen or heard, who can I talk to?
Our moderation tools have been programmed to filter certain content but if you feel worried about anything you have seen or heard on Our Space, we'd like to know! You can use the complaints reporting channel to raise any concerns which will be addressed in line with our complaints policy and precedure.
  • It seems a little quiet in the server, is that normal?
Our Space is still a relatively new initiative for IAF and whilst we will share lots of useful links to support, resources and opportunities, it's up to users to keep conversations in the general chat channels going. As the server grows and more users come online, we're positive that the chat will be buzzing to help you socialise, game, connect and share.
