On October 10th 2023, IAF are joining a global community of change-makers commemorating World Mental Health Day and asking what more can be done to improve mental health for future generations. We know first-hand that mental health is a struggle that many of young people are facing. In fact, 82% of young people we supported during 2022/2023 told us their mental health was holding them back, a figure that is up 12% on the year prior, and continues to rise.
For young people especially, it can be particularly challenging to open about mental health. Fear of what others may think, and how they might react, keep many personal struggles a secret but it’s important to remember that you are not alone and there are lots of sources of support to help;
The IAF Hub is our dedicated resource library for young people that provides a self-service route to support on a broad range of topics. You’ll find everything from staying safe online to suicide prevention and we encourage all young people to access these resources when you need to. Don't forget our open door policy means you can also discuss any concerns with your IAF mentor or Prince’s Trust Team Leader - we're here to support you.
Mansfield and District Samaritans have been providing a non-judgemental listening service for 24 hours 7 days a week since 1972. Call 116 123 for a safe place to talk.
The Mix is the UK’s leading support service for young people. You can find support and talk through your worries through their online community, via their free confidential helpline or counselling service.
Young Minds supports young people across the UK to improve their mental health and offers a wide range of resources through their website to empower young people and better understand their options.
Always remember that NHS 111 option 2 is available during times of mental health crisis. Run by the first response service, NHS 111 can connect you with support 24/7, 365 days a year.
