Worksop Team 6 set to work at Bassetlaw Food Bank

Worksop Team 6 has been hard at work on an inspiring community project, turning the Bassetlaw Food Bank allotments into inviting spaces for all to enjoy. By revitalising these areas, they’ve created a welcoming environment that supports local wildlife and community interaction for those accessing this much needed service.

Team 6 took on the challenging task of tidying up various allotment plots; digging, weeding, and clearing overgrown areas to prepare the ground for new plants and ensure the area is easy for volunteers to maintain in future. The existing raised beds were restored to their former glory, a new compost heap and bird feeders were built to enhance the biodiversity of the garden.

With the outdoor space coming together nicely, the team shifted focus to the upcoming community café; sanding and painting tables and chairs for a cosy new seating area where community members can relax, enjoy refreshments, and connect with neighbours. “These much welcomed changes are not just about creating pretty spaces” shared Team Leader Duncan Wilson, “we hope the project that Team 6 have started will foster a sense of belonging, engagement, and shared responsibility that will benefit the community for years to come”.

For the young people involved, this community project has offered a hands on opportunity to develop their individual and team working skills and some young people later went on to volunteer and complete further bricklaying work as part of their work experience placements. Pippa Carter, The Inspire and Achieve Foundation’s Director added “This project has been a fantastic way to introduce younger members of the community to a vital support service in their area whilst also helping to embed knowledge of environment awareness and sustainability.  We’re incredibly proud of each and every young person who participated in developing this community-centred space for the benefit of the Bassetlaw district”.
