: An ethically minded alternative provision
Our alternative provision, Achievement Unlocked, came about after supporting some NEET young people with SEND and them not being able to access college provision when they were otherwise ready to do so. We'd watched these young people grow in confidence only to find their progress stall again as their learning needs were too high for mainstream provision but not severe enough for specialist schools. We were frustrated. Young people and their families were frustrated and we knew there must be something more we could do to prevent these individuals from becoming another number on a waiting list for support. A year later and here we are - a fully integrated alternative provision within our Mansfield youth hub for young people aged 16-25 with an EHCP. This is where education meets adventure! Where every new challenge is a chance to level up your skills and gain real-world experience ready for the future.
We see ourselves as ethically driven educators; empowering young people to leave the past behind them, rise to new challenges and unlock their future, whether that is in employment or further education. Why? Because every young person has something amazing in them… they just need the confidence to find it! To help young people find that spark of excitement, we believe learning should be an adventure and our project based curriculum is built around The King’s Trust Achieve Programme to give exactly that. AP learners have the chance to work toward anything from an Award to an Extended Diploma in Personal Development and Employability and this hands-on approach keeps learning meaningful and gives young people the chance to build transferable skills in areas like customer service, construction, social care, retail, catering, sales, entrepreneurship, marketing, budgeting, and project management — all while boosting confidence and preparing for the world of work. With ownership over their education, this programme supports young people to build confidence, promote teamwork, encourage understanding, reduce social isolation, and improve communication skills.
Achievement Unlocked is a part time programme tailored to support learners with Anxiety, Autism, social exclusion, or barriers to mainstream education. Our sessions run Monday to Friday 9:30am–12:30pm and our learners also benefit from optional access to free youth activities (pool, football, gaming etc) and our youth hub each afternoon. Short term 1:1 support is available whilst integrating into our group provision and we have partnered with an online Functional skills platform to give those learners wishing to study these qualifications the freedom to learn and sit exams where they feel most comfortable.
