Young people from St. Gile's School in Retford have achieved an extraordinary milestone this year and made their mark on the local community through the Prince’s Trust Team programme. Under the guidance of Team Leader Jamie Carter, 12 students embarked on an inspiring community project where they fundraised to support and upgrade the garden at Goodwin Hall. Having successfully raised £380 to utilise towards supplies and plants, the team set to work on renovating the shared space for others to enjoy.

It’s with great pride that we can announce today that the outstanding efforts of the team have been recognised in the annual Retford in Bloom competition, organized by the Retford Civic Society, and our young people took home the 2024 Community Award for their hard work! This incredible achievement celebrates the students’ lasting impact on their community and highlights their creativity and teamwork in transforming the Goodwin Hall garden into a vibrant and welcoming space for anyone accessing the local services within.
“Piloting the Prince's Trust Team programme alongside St Gile’s has been an exciting opportunity to extend the reach of this fantastic youth provision to SEN schools in the area” said Pippa Carter, Director of the Inspire and Achieve Foundation, who are Nottinghamshire’s delivery partner for the Team programme. “Team is all about helping young people develop confidence, teamwork, and practical skills, and the St. Gile's students demonstrated these qualities in abundance through their community project”.

Representatives from the garden project attended the 2024 awards ceremony, on Wednesday 25th September, in an event which became a proud moment for the students, support workers, and everyone involved in the Team programme.
